Who is eligible to receive reentry assistance from CBI?
At this time, only CBI graduates can receive reentry assistance.
Why can’t other inmates receive reentry assistance from CBI?
CBI is unable to provide a detailed profile of a person in prison or jail who hasn’t completed at least Tier 1. Parole panels and reentry agencies like to see that incarcerated persons are making good use of their time, finishing projects they start and actively preparing for reentry, and CBI can only report on these matters if a student has at least completed Tier 1. Moreover, if students complete Tier 1, they prove they are serious about reentry and are ready to enroll in CBI’s Graduate Studies Program (Tier 2), which deals specifically with reentry issues.
How does one go about receiving reentry assistance from CBI?
Any CBI graduate who is planning to be released should contact CBI (or ask a friend or family member to do so) and inform us of their expected release date and destination. CBI will then inform the graduate of suitable reentry agencies in the area of their release and provide detailed information about the agencies. Submit a request for reentry assistance.
Is there a cost for reentry assistance?
No, CBI does not charge our graduates a fee. Moreover, we attempt to connect our graduates with reentry facilities that are free of charge. However, charitable gifts are always welcomed and much needed to fund and develop the reentry program.
What if an incarcerated person who is not currently a CBI student needs reentry assistance?
CBI will contact the incarcerated person, letting him/her know that we are only able to offer reentry assistance to CBI students. However, we will also explain the requirements for reentry assistance and invite them to enroll in our program. If a student completes Tier 1 prior to his/her release, CBI will be happy to provide reentry assistance. Enroll in CBI’s Tier 1 program.
What if a graduate is unaware of his/her release date?
That’s okay. CBI will still provide any graduate with information regarding reentry ministries in the area of his/her release. We ask for the release date to determine who needs assistance first.
What if the reentry ministry won’t accept a graduate due to lack of space or some other reason?
Under certain circumstances this may happen. However, CBI will go to work again and locate other options for the graduate. We never leave graduates empty-handed.
Will you contact the reentry ministry for the graduate?
Of course! On occasion, reentry ministries will ask for letters of recommendation for our students, and we are happy to write these letters for them. If the graduate shows concern about acceptance to a program, we will check on the status of his/her application as well. We want to do all we can to help our graduates. We desire to see them succeed on the outside and, with God's help, we are confident they will!
Will CBI provide assistance for sex-offenders?
Yes, we will provide assistance to any graduate regardless of their criminal offense. Crossroad Bible Institute does not take a graduate’s criminal history into account when determining eligibility for reentry assistance.
What can I do to help?
First, pray for our students as they study God’s Word and prepare to reenter society. Second, if you are a CBI Instructor, be sure to encourage your students to connect with a reentry ministry upon release. Assure them that CBI’s reentry program will provide assistance for them during this vital transition in their lives. Third, look at what Jesus is doing through His church and prayerfully consider what you can give to further His Kingdom! Get Involved.
